Summary Operates computerized or manual embroidery machine to embroider name, initial, logo, or decorative designs on garments, household articles, material, or uniforms by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Operates automatic embroidery machines with single or multiple sewing heads controlled by computerized program or manual embroidery machines controlled by operator.
Reads work order to determine type and location of embroidery.
Selects size and color thread and draws it through machine guides and bobbin.
Confirms all needles on machine(s) are filled with proper thread per work order specifications.
Adjusts machine settings to match order specifications.
Positions article under presser foot and presses pedal or knee control or pushes button to start machine and/or control speed of sewing.
Guides fabric under needle with left hand and follows pattern when using manual machines, or monitors output of automatic machines.
Observes sewing operation to detect defects in stitching that indicate machine malfunction and notifies supervisor of malfunction.
Pins tissue paper pattern on fabric to be used as guide or draws guide freehand on fabric.
Uses embroidery hoops to hold fabric taut.
Repairs defective embroidery or fills in blanks left by embroidery machine when possible.
Troubleshoots jams or inefficiencies.

Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); OR six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Prior experience and/or proven proficiency using automatic or manual embroidery machines.
Language Skills
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills
General knowledge of computers for operation of automatic computerized embroidery machines.
