What is market opinion of the Ricoma brand embroidery equipment.
Re: Ricoma embroider equipment - ????
I have one! Bought it for good price. Couldn't figure out how to make it work for a Loooong time... even though I tried over and over. Have learned how to use it and it works okay. I hate it though! Just the thought of all the pain I went through making it go.
I hit a hoop once. Had a repairman out. Made him show me everything he was doing. He wasn't real mechanically enclined... Dropped 20 or so ball bearings (of maybe 100) that suddenly fell out when he removed the head (needle go-up-and-down mechanism on the front).... forgot to tighten two of 3 screws when setting the timing, but I remembered after he left.
Took the machine to an Ice Skating competition. Sold lotsa stuff. Didn't quite snap the hoop in one time and it slipped out.... yep the needle hit and "BAM" out of commission. While my wife took orders, I sat there with the machine all apart and replaced the replicator (or whatever the part is called that makes the needle go up and down), reset the timing and I was back in business in an hour!
If you get one, get it cheaper than the guy wants. He is trying to get rid of his headache.... but if it is what you can afford and it seems to run (make him run it) then it will do okay once you learn about it.
Someday when you can afford one of the fancy, great quality, shiny new, whizbang machines, your experience with the Ricoma will make you all the more greatful. Having a bottom of the heap type of machine will make you really learn about embroidery....
have fun. I am keeping mine until I have earned enough to buy a better one.... Tajima, Meistergram, Amaya (I love the idea of not having to adjust thread tension, if that really works).
