Re: Workhorse Powerhouse quartz dryers
Hey, I have a Workhorse PQ5217 that I picked up off of another Digitsmith user earlier this year. I have to say it's an amazing dryer. It's how I found your post actually relating to Workhorse dryers, I'm looking for a second one.
The one I got was used and it needed some work when I got it, and when I called up Workhorse they were extremely knowledgable on the phone, and got me replacement parts overnight. Also, the prices were really good on the parts. I didn't feel like they were trying to bend me over a barrel to get more $$$ from me just to fix it. The tech on the phone walked me through replacing the parts on the machine just like he would have if he was sitting over my shoulder instructing me. He knew the machine inside and out.
As far as using the dryer, it's been amazing. We had a 16ft x 36" infrared dryer that was always scorching and burning shirts and yellowing the colors when we did light color ink discharge. The quartz bulbs are awesome. Very easy to manage the temps, and the shirts dry consistantly from the edge of the belt to the middle. And the yellow tint we were getting on all of our light discharge dissapeared. Instead of on/off heat from an infrared dryer, the quartz bulbs get dimmer or brighter based on the temp needed almost instantly. The dryer is rated at like 90 amps, but on full load, 3-phase 240, ours only pulls about 72 amps.
We run 2 TAS jumbo automatics at a time with the dryer. Big all over discharge printing from top to bottom and onto the sleeves, with foil adhesive, fronts and backs. It also handles neck lables as fast as two people can throw shirts onto the belt.
