If I may, changing the Nylon Bevel Gears to all Metal is a Disaster waiting to happen! The Nylon gears are sacrificial in that if one hook gets jammed up due to a birdsnest or whatever that specific gear will fail and not effect the other heads nor the main drive shaft. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND you change back to the Nylon Gears at your earliest ability!

I agree with you on this, When I did this I knew that I need to be more careful on the operation of this machine, metal gear & plastic gear have + and -. Bird nest is not so bad, bad wil be if I hit a hoop.

Thanks for the input!

what year is it and does it run good? any problems with it? what size bobbins does it use.

When I first got this machine it had that problem, I tried to talk to Hirch and they wanted to charge me $50.00 to tell me what was wrong with the machine since I've been working with barudans only, so wanted a short cut to fix the problem. I decided not to pay them so I disconnected mechanically head by head, until I got to the problem, one of spiral bevel gear was broken, so there was some prices of the gear mixed with the grease (since the grease is white and the gear is white is hard to see it), got a new parts form sewmanyparts.com, I put all apart the bottom part ( hook, hook bar, etc) oiled all of the bushings.

I of curse got the metal bevel gears, review all of the other gears and I ended up changing one more gear, new grease to all the bevel gears and it worked out very good!, I really do not like Tajima customer service, and @ my full time job still working with barudans and I have a single head barudan elite xl for samples, I want to sell this machine and get a barudan. I'm not saying Tajimas are bad machines but I've been with barudan for so many years, I'm selling this one and trying to get another barudan 4h or 6h so I have all barudan.

so basically what i did was
1- remove timing belt.
2.- turn over the head shaft. It turned over free.
3.- Turn over Hook Shaft, Didi not turn free.
4.- Disassemble one bevel gear @ the time tun the shaft over until I found the one.
5.- Replace bevel gears.
6.- remove old grease , oiled all of the bushings.
7.-Put all together, according to the manual specs.
8.- Ready to rock!
