Dang.. just noticed no software. I really need to get a machine with software included.

Ok... let's explore this.... exactly what software would I need ? (crossing fingers that I can find it rather inexpensively somewhere)

You don't need any software. Not to run the machine anyway. You use floppies to save .dst files to and then you transfer them onto the 'computer' looking part of the machine. The software you WANT is something to view files and create names and other things with. There are free programs or very inexpensive programs and also some very expensive ones too. I happen to use a very inexpensive one called Embird and I digitize with it too. Everything cost me $420 which is cheap in the embroidery world. Ignore any ideas that you must use Brother software with Brother machines. If that was true then resellers like Dakota couldn't sell billions of designs because they'd be busy making each design on every version of software. A DST file doesn't know what it's made on. It just stitches out. I have the 416a version in the commercial Brother line. It's a lot like the 415, but it has the jumbo bobbin and hook which is a LOT more expensive than this 415. Also Mine has 1 movable presser foot and yours has one for each needle. Think that's probably all that's different though. It uses Tajima hoops and a lot of it is just like Tajima.
