I have a prime example of why it is good to support your local companies. I had a customer here in Seattle that took his digitizing and production business overseas to pakistan. I knew the production company he was using here locally and it hurt both our businesses. Then, a month later I get a call from the customer who wanted me to call Pakistan to explain how to properly place the logos for left chest. Here he takes away my business and someone else that I know, yet he wants me to help them with something they should already know. A couple months later he again calls and wants me to explain to them how to set up hats for puff embroidery. All you can do is shake your head and wonder sometimes.

I'm with you too. I wonder how many "US" digitizers would offer to send their condensed files along with the stitch files. I don't punch for outsiders, just for our shop and a few friends, and EVERRYONE I punch for has their own systems. I'm just the "go to guy" for applique, special efffects fills, and just plain HARD artwork. I've punched on and off for 30 years, and am back at it again. Some of us never learn...lol

I digitize for 12 years now and hoping someone would use me. I started off from the bottom. First, just hooping, then run thems multi-head embroidery machine, and digitizing, and finally multi-tasking;)

so does that make you an "American Digitizer" or "Based in America"? Maybe it doesn't matter to those that read this thread but to me they are two different things.

I can see the benefits of subbing out.. it enables you to do less work and still make money.. it also allows you to keep your leadtimes in check. Whereas we do all our work in house and during those times of year that we get slammed we work longer hours but still find ourselves juggling work and praying the weekend comes sooner so we can work and get caught up.. lol Might not be fair to our clients since we are messing with their in hands date, but I just cannot bring myself to sub out....especially if that is Off Shore.

Again maybe it doesnt matter, maybe I should ask my clients if they would be ok if I subbed out their work and just sat here and made the difference? But I just cannot wrap my mind around that yet... I want control of the digitizing, I want the pride to be mine when we pull off some of the amazing designs our clients send us.

And I am still proud to think that after 23 years in digitizing we are still around and everything is done in the US... But that could just be the work ethic I learned growing up in the coal mines of Indiana and Kentucky, or what I learned as a medic in the US ARMY or what I gained from going to the United States Military Academy in West Point NY. All combined I am who I am , and American Based just doesn't work for me in this thread.

with all due respect "megrisoft" some people due care if it is digitized in the U.S.A. or not.......as Americans I along with many other Americans try to support our guys (so to say) BUY AMERICAN !!!!! so it does matter if a company says it is American or based here and then outsources it's stuff overseas.....I guess my old school mentality just plain out calls that a LIE....
now if you advertise that you are based overseas and that all digitizing is done overseas then it is your client that decides where he/she would like to get their digitizing done...... but to many digitizers/companys out there now a days say they are based or do the work here when in fact they do not......so a simple YES is does matter to some......Thanks

I agree, I wouldn't sub out my work. If I have to work 7 days a week to keep up but like you said you wouldn't have as much control over the quality. No one cares more about your business than yourself. It is that midwest upbringing, I completely agree!

I'm with you harleydude777 it is so hard to find truly USA made. And I get so frustrated trying to understand reps from other countries.

Many US digitizing companies outsource to overseas, so you can not really know if the design is USA made or overseas digitized

punchlinepro.com Works out of his home, Been doing this for years and he does GREAT work. Strawberry Stitch is another good USA source that does GREAT work. I know how to digitize but were to busy so I often send both of the above people work and am VERY happy with them both ! Yes work is done IN AMERICA

If they are looking for an American Digitizer why would someone in India respond to them? I mean if someone posted that they were looking for an Indian digitizer I personally wouldn't think to offer my services as I am in Texas. :confused:

We are based in India, Does it matter if design is digitized in USA or India. We are doing digitizing for many UK, USA, Australia firms and they never have issue, My point is that if quality is given, no issue in hiring overseas digitizers. We have fast turn around and support as compared to US based digitizers

I missed this thread.

I think it is a shame that the US people seem to have lost their pride.

I see national pride in our country for many of it's "new" citizens and I respect it completely! One of my fellow embroiderers is from Honduras and he does ALL the Mexican restaurants in town... I think it's awesome that they support each other like that. Americans should do the same. That dollar you are sending to another country is likely never going to make it back to this country.

I'm all for one love and I value EVERYONE's lives, but the local community comes first, sometimes that local community is a little more far reaching than just the "neighborhood".
