I saw garmentequipmentauction.com being promoted on twitter by the industry magazine https://twitter.com/#!/Impressionsmags
Anybody used their auctions to buy and sell equipment before?
garmentequipment.com seems to be the main site for garmentequipmentauction.com. i didn't see a business address on both site so i looked in the domain registry and shows garmentequipment.com is owned by a company called spider hype see file below, but when i went on spiderhype.com the site is closed.
They have both classifieds and auctions. i also notice garmentequipment.com and garmentequipmentauction.com have many of there classifieds and auctions identical to digitsmith posts like the ones below for example.

People still go there?
Re: Spider Hype / garmentequipment.com feedbacks
How nice is that they added two days extended bidding to their auctions, imagine your the guy with the highest bid and you think you actually got your win and they pull that wow. What a scam this auction site is.

Re: Spider Hype / garmentequipment.com feedbacks
Re: Spider Hype / garmentequipment.com feedbacks
What is the legality of extending an auction like that? I read their disclaimer and it mentions some thing about adding 15 minutes but not two whole days.
Re: Spider Hype / garmentequipment.com feedbacks
What is the 15% "premium" for that the bidder has to pay on top of his final bid? Running the website? They aren't inspecting the equipment, they aren't moving it, crating it, installing it, they aren't going to warranty it, they aren't doing anything but running a website. I could see that premium being worth it if they had eyes and hands on the equipment and using that money to make sure the bidders are getting a decent piece of equipment and can have some type of assurance/insurance/warranty.
I'm looking at this as a potential customer, not someone who opposes the owner of the website. I'm being as practical and unbiased as I can be and there is no way I'd use their services (ha, that's a good one) with the rules and regulations that they have in place. I'm not saying that there is no room or place for this type of business in our industry, but under it's current contruction it makes no sense to use the auction when there is a free site right here where you can deal with the seller directly and cut out a middle man that offers basically nothing to the transaction. Maybe there is much more to the auction and the service they provide is worth it but I can't see that while looking at it from a customer's perspective.
Re: Spider Hype / garmentequipment.com feedbacks
There is no service except for running a website, they then make a 15% premium off the buyer and another set premium off the seller. Then the rules state everyone even the seller is not responsible for any post sales issues WTF! There is a reason why people like Winston excel in the used equipment and well others do not.

Re: Spider Hype / garmentequipment.com feedbacks
He's probably right, Spider Hype is probably not related to Spider Machines in any way :).
Re: Spider Hype / garmentequipment.com feedbacks
Yep and there is another person named Robert Barnes in this industry as well.
Re: Spider Hype / garmentequipment.com feedbacks
Yea, apparently he looks just like barnes, but with no goatee and isn't a complete turd.

Makes me wonder about this Joncryton fellow as well. It is something Robert would do with an alias for sure.

Re: Spider Hype / garmentequipment.com feedbacks
Surprised? The whole idea of an auction is to get the perspective buyers into a feeding frenzy to inflate the price. People go nuts, as the price goes up others think the highest bidder knows something so they add to the bid and so on and so on .So lets drag it out and give people time to stir a little so the price continues to go up.

Re: Spider Hype / garmentequipment.com feedbacks
So who believes that all the screen printing equipment went from almost no bids on any of it 3 days ago to all but a few having bids well over the minimum? I guess it could happen...but I'd bet the other way if I were a betting man.
Are there laws against artificial/phony bids at auctions and web-based auctions? I'm sure there are but I don't practice that type of law.
I seriously doubt someone is going to let that Adelco 72" dryer go for 10K when they were asking 3 times that on this site.
Re: Spider Hype / garmentequipment.com feedbacks
Guarantee 90-95% are shill bids.

Re: Spider Hype / garmentequipment.com feedbacks
I told the guy who has the high end manual shop on there that Barnes owns the site. He said he was going to have them take it off. It's still on there.
Re: Spider Hype / garmentequipment.com feedbacks
Shill bidding is illegal.
Some of the items on there are currently set to sell so low I cannot for one second believe the seller is going to go for it no way.
Re: Spider Hype / garmentequipment.com feedbacks
Here is a funny little story on their website about "them". Seems totally believable.
A group of garment industry veterans, who attended a trade show, got together for a meal at a local restaurant. They talked about their careers and where their particular business was going and the industry in general. Out of the blue one of the group asked a question "What happens to our customers when they can't get the resources they need to grow their business?" Another chimed in "Great question here's one for you 'How many of your customers are sitting on quality equipment that they aren't using any more?'" It was at that moment that Garment Equipment was born.
The group decided to find a way current customers, and other garment decorators, could help themselves gain the capital resources needed by leveraging their out of service, quality used equipment. It was decided there was not just one single solution, garment decorators needed a choice on how to sell their used equipment. Cash for Equipment, Brokered Sales and the industry's first LIVE Online Auction would be the 3 vehicles to sell the equipment.
Each of them had a substantial number of world-wide connections and potential buyers/sellers in their respective databases. What they lacked was the team of people who could make their vision a reality. Each loved their current job and saw Garment Equipment as a resource for their customers, not a change of job for themselves. So they scoured the world to find just the right team with the talents and skills needed to make this project work.
With the financial backing of the original group, the new team has started the process of helping businesses gain access to capital and capital equipment (via brokered sales) to grow their business. How many times in business do we see true WIN/WIN situations play out right before our eyes?
Now comes the next generation of Garment Equipment, the launch of the Live Auction and Buy/Sell divisions. We are now poised to help virtually any business owner gain access to capital or needed equipment in any situation. Bought or sold, fast and fair Garment Equipment has your solution.

Re: Spider Hype / garmentequipment.com feedbacks
Wow talk about a pattern repeating it self everyone remember Lowery auction and the tons of people that got burned by him wow.
Re: Spider Hype / garmentequipment.com feedbacks
I really can't believe they would make up all the fake contact names, background story and history, email addresses, then take all the adds from this site...wonder if everyone agreed to have them represent their equipment from here?
Re: Spider Hype / garmentequipment.com feedbacks
Are you saying the names in the contact page are made up?
Re: Spider Hype / garmentequipment.com feedbacks
Someone please take the time and take screen shots of this site.
Re: Spider Hype / garmentequipment.com feedbacks
guy name jon did answer the phone when I called.
Re: Spider Hype / garmentequipment.com feedbacks
I think they have reserves.
Re: Spider Hype / garmentequipment.com feedbacks
Appears they have permission to post their stuff.
http://www.digitsmith.com/complete-high-end-manual-shop-2-32461.html
I asked this guy, and he said they have permission.
So it's legit until Barnes screws somebody over again.
Re: Spider Hype / garmentequipment.com feedbacks
Yes they have reserves but some reserves actually all of them are ridiculously low as a seller you cannot consider selling that low, that leads me to believe Barnes and gang promised to do what ever it takes to jack the pricing up or even worse use a shill bid and win but not actually sell the items. I would be curious to see if any of the items come back up for sale that would prove illegal activities.
Re: Spider Hype / garmentequipment.com feedbacks
I sure thought so, but I could be wrong. I know that the Jon guy joined this site not too long ago but there are things about his bio that don't quite add up, I can't go into specifics but let's just say that something doesn't smell right. Jon says he's out of Cleveland, the site is registered to Robert Barnes...I'm sure we can have a hell of a time trying to fill in the rest of the story.
Re: Spider Hype / garmentequipment.com feedbacks
I sent a few emails out yesterday asking about the permission and never got a response from any of them so I was assuming the worst.
Re: Spider Hype / garmentequipment.com feedbacks
I just don't understand all the smoke and mirrors, the secrecy and what not. If you have a legit business and are doing things the right way then why is the website listed under someone's name that has never mentioned this, or the contacts in this venture have never mentioned their affiliation with Robert? There doesn't appear to be anything wrong with what they are doing but why do we have to sit here and try to figure out who is doing what and who is really behind all of this? It shouldn't have to be like this.
The person who posted this info just did it so we would talk about it and create some buzz around the site but all we have are more questions about the validity of the business. Who exactly is the thread starter and why are people who are joining this site and posting here anonymously using proxy servers?
Re: Spider Hype / garmentequipment.com feedbacks
Jon Cryton popped up recently on SPOF and here but he is not from our industry he is a marketing person I would not be surprised if he is made up as well.
Re: Spider Hype / garmentequipment.com feedbacks
Mustang business scam is about over. Only thing he has left is the blue dragon, so now he is moving on to the auction business again to screw people. Some day he will go to prison. It will catch up to him.
Re: Spider Hype / garmentequipment.com feedbacks
call the number, he answers by Jon and it doesn't sound like Barney.
Re: Spider Hype / garmentequipment.com feedbacks
Alan it is shady because Robert is harvesting equipment sales from this site to use on his auction site, it is no fault of the seller of course but Robert as usual needs to ride anothers coat tails to get any business for him self.
Re: Spider Hype / garmentequipment.com feedbacks
He has permission from them.
Re: Spider Hype / garmentequipment.com feedbacks
So I contacted this guy and they have permission. But then I told him Barnes owns the domain name and he freaked out. Obviously he is having this Jon guy deal with everyone. The people who agree to this have no idea Barnes is apart of this.

Jons number is from the bay area of California which is strange as the website does not even mention anything about California.

And he says he's in Cleveland Ohio, has a cali phone number, something tells me that he isn't logging on from Cleveland :), must be a world traveler.

I like that little "story" from their site.

Re: Spider Hype / garmentequipment.com feedbacks
I’ve been watching the banner ads for Garment Equipment Auction (GEA) since they first popped up on the SPOF Site earlier this week, and I feel really sorry for anyone who purchases used equipment from this site under the terms and conditions that they are operating under. The following information comes directly from the GEA website clearly states that the buyer has no assurance of the quality, accuracy of listing, condition, or for the non-delivery of any of the equipment that they are bidding on. There is also a total avoidance of any responsibility on the part of GEA, and no protection provided to the buyer by GEA to ensure the accuracy of the listings. I would advise anyone buying equipment from this to to use extreme care.
AS IS, WHERE IS, WITH ALL FAULTS - All machinery, equipment, merchandise and other property (collectively, “Property”) is sold "AS IS, WHERE IS, WITH ALL FAULTS" with no warranties or representations as to title, fitness of purpose, quantity, quality, merchantability, state, condition, location, value or otherwise. GEA, Consignor and Site Owner and their Representatives shall have no liability to buyer due to non-delivery of any item for any reason other than to return to buyer the monies deposited or paid for such non-delivered items.
If a shortage exists with respect to items in a sold lot, an adjustment to the sale price may be made by GEA in GEA’s sole discretion. GEA, Consignor, and the Site Owner and their Representatives shall not be liable for any lost profits, incidental or consequential damages or the replacement value of any item. All advertising, catalogs, and other sources of information provided by GEA are subject to additions, deletions and prior sale. No statement (oral or written) in the catalog, at the auction or website, or elsewhere shall be deemed a warranty or representation. Re: Spider Hype / garmentequipment.com feedbacks
Re: Spider Hype / garmentequipment.com feedbacks
So did anything actually sell?
Re: Spider Hype / garmentequipment.com feedbacks
It appears most of the items didn't bring the bucks the sellers were looking for. Is this a surprise? I would love to send a new business tens of thousands of dollars with no warranty, no clear background on the principals and no reputable technician's seal of approval on the equipment.
Today "Broker" is not as bad of word as it was yesterday. Free rides don't exist, the people that listed on this auction were thinking "big buck" selling prices. The auctioneers were thinking of 36% comissions on "As Is" sales and the bidders were thinking they were going get the deal of a lifetime.
I get e-mails and calls every day from potential buyers, many of them end the conversation when they find out I am a middleman in the deal. That's ok with me, I find deals for people that don't have time to travel and inspect every machine. When you ask me the condition of the machine I have a solid answer based on my opinion, not the seller's. Brokers also help sellers that are too busy to cater to potential buyers (of which well over 50% are tire kickers). A guy called me last week and asked who the seller is, he didn't earn the answer to that question. I know the seller because I hit the road and found him, if you want the machine, I am the seller.
Some people middleman deals without ever inspecting what they are selling, these are the people that give Brokers a bad reputation.
Buying and selling equipment requires trust, this is earned over time. Trust is not manufactured on a website that materialized over dinner with sketchy offerings.

I know that I saw the oval with a bid well over the minimum and it is now saying it didn't sell. I thought I remember seeing that the reserve had been met as well, but I looked at so many yesterday and can't quite recall everything.
