Sweatshirt Embroidery

Hi,
My name is Mike and I recently bought a Singer Futura CE-100. I've been trying to figure out how to attach a sweatshirt onto the hoop so that I can embroider onto the front/chest and upper sleeve areas of the sweatshirt. Any advice on how to do this would be greatly appreciated.
thanks,
Mike

Did you figure it out? It's really simple and should be in the manual.

Basically, a hoop has two parts - the outer frame and the inner frame. Place the outer frame inside the sweatshirt and then place a sheet of stabilizer/backing on top of the outer frame. Then take the inner frame and put it on top of the sweatshirt so that it is on top of the outer frame. Then simply push the inner frame so that it clamps both the sweatshirt and the stabilizer/backing together. So you're basically sandwiching the shirt and backing between the outer and inner frame.

Forgot to add. When you load the shirt on the machine, you have to make a nest-like structure so that you don't embroidery the front and fabric together. I found a web page the illustrates it on a shirt but of course it can be done on a sweatshirt too.

See it here (middle of page) - http://www.insulate.co.uk/helen/mystuff/sewing13.htm

Thanks Barb,
I thought the outer hoop has to be on the outside/top of the sweatshirt tho (pushing the outer hoop down over the inner hoop)? So that the fabric is raised up against the embroidery foot instead of down. Does it not matter?
Do you do a lot of sweatshirt embroidery? Are there any other tips you could share with me?

Hi Mike,

I do lots of embroidery, including sweatshirts. Hooping t-shirts is the same as hooping sweatshirts.

Yest it matters. The fabric should be close to the needle plate. Basically, the less the fabic moves the better. If the outer frame/hoop was placed on the outside/top of the sweatshirt, the fabric and stabilizer will be raised substantially which will cause the fabric and stabilizer to move.

Hey Mike,

One name for you, "Hoop Master"! They work perfectly. same hooping placement every time. I started from scratch, not knowing very much about embroidery & "Hoop Master" helped me out tremendously.
