Mesh cap side

So I did a small logo on the side of a cap last night. Open mesh. I went with tatami underlay and a complete fill layer of black to form a base like a patch then ran satin stitching in white without any underlay across it and an outline around the fill area. Turned out ok but I wonder if this was the best way to accomplish it or not. How do you all deal with mesh hats? First one for me that I have had to sew on the side. Oh I used three layers of the stiff tear away backing as well.

We do a lot of mesh cap backs and sides. Depending on the design, it sounds like you did everything right. We use a heavy weight film topping similar to solvy for some designs & lettering in addition to the tear away backing.

Thanks guys. It turned out good enough especially since I warned them I didn't know how it was going to look. They were pleasantly surprised with the results. Solvy would have been a good idea although I only have regular weight but I guess I could double it up or something. I dropped the underlay on the text because there were so many stitches already there didn't seem any point in it.
