Repair Help w/1998 Brother Single Head

United States

I am at wits end with my 1998 Brother Single Head. Tech support, repairman and Brother rep have no clue what is wrong with this machine but they want me to keep spending money to "see" what the problem could be. The pantogram bar after going through the start up process does not stop after turning on machine. It travels all the way back as far as possible and then makes a grinding noice for about 5 seconds then stops the noise and locks the pantogram in place. When machine is turned off, it can move easily. We have completely dusted and sprayed air through it thinking it could be the sensor. We replaced the sensor. Checked the circuit board on the panel. Does anyone know A) what is happening or B) what can be done? I am in the middle of softball/baseball season and need this machine running. HELP!
