Hi all
for ages I've been considering trying my hand at computerised embroidery but have never had a definite need for it. I'm about to start a sailing campaign towards the paralympic and would like to have custom made embroidered clothing, bags etc. I'd also like to regularly add sponsors logos to my clothing.
Having looked at many promotional clothing companies they all have a minimum order which far exceeds my requirements and wouldn't leave me an option to add logos.
Being physically disabled I wouldn't be able to manually operate the machine but I'm very quick at picking up new things and can explain to my carers what needs to be done. If this goes well I'd like to set-up a small run embroidery enterprise from home.
Considering all the above do you think this is a plausible idea? If so which machine would you recommend. I've been looking at brother machines especially the innov-is 1200.

Good luck on this project! You have the concept and you know what you want to provide... my recommendation would be to use your time marketing and training (if you, yourself, will be participating in the events?)... but not trying to learn digitizing and embroidery at the same time. Hook up with a local embroiderer for your product and designs. They have already learned the ropes and gone through the time and damaged product a new person goes through in this industry. Plus, why spend a nickel on a machine until sales make it a necessity? Just my 2 cents... best of luck !

Being technically minded I was planning on expanding my repertoire of computer skills to include embroidery. I was going to use my requirements as practice and then provide 1 off production services either through local shop windows or e-bay.
The only concern I have is the amount of manual assistance I'll need in order to accomplish this.

Not sure where you are located, we are in San Antonio, so probably cannot help with the manual assistance part, but if you need any help with the digitizing just let me know. I am not suggesting that we DO your digitizing, just offering to help by showing you how to plan a design and how to digitize it yourself. Learning to punch the buttons is the easy part.. the hard part is knowing what to punch first in what direction and what density, etc... then what goes second, then third, etc... THAT is the part I can help with.
