I am in start-up phase of an embroidery business to compliment our established uniform business and am trying to decide on a machine. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I would primarily be doing t-shirts, golf shirts sweats, hats and gear bags. Can anyone tell me approx. how long it takes to embroider a logo onto a t-shirt? (approx. 4" square area size fire dept Maltese cross logo) just to give me an idea.
Thanks!

Re: Is Barudan any good?
Yes, Barudan machines are good. In fact, they're fantastic, but they cost a lot more than other machines - in my personal experience anways. I've done lots of Maltese crosses around my area and one thing you have to realize is that there are many varities of them. In my experience at around 800 stitches/minute, it all averages around 25 minutes or less per cross on shirts.
Re: Is Barudan any good?
Thanks for the response...is there a machine you would recommend?:
Re: Is Barudan any good?
Barudan and Tajima are great. Whichever will provide the best support in your area is the winner. Barudans do cost more, but it's totally worth it. In my experience SWF machines are also great (as of now) and are much less expensive, but I've only been using them for around 2 years so I don't know yet how they will compare to Barudan and Tajima in 3 more years. So far so good. For me the litmus test for machines is around 5 years of regular use. 5 years is usually the time when machines start acting up. If the machine becomes troublesome from there and needs a lot of attention to get it to work as good as it did in its younger years, then I'll get rid of it. However, the SWF machine I have has already paid for itself several times over in the first 6 months. I've been operating Barudans and Tajimas for over 10 years and they'll remain the backbone of my business.
Re: Is Barudan any good?
I currently run 7 heads(a 4, a 2 and a 1) of Barudan and LOVE them. I also run the TES software for my digitizing. I used to run a Fortron(aka Pfaff) and it was HORRIBLE. I highly reccomend a Barudan. If you need the name of a rep, let me know. Mine is very EXTREMELY helpful and not at all pushy.
Re: Is Barudan any good?
I run a 4-head Barudan all day long and it puts out better looking stuff than all the other machines at my shop (Happy machines- eeuulch). Just like these other guys said- it' runs great, smooth, not too loud (unless you're running at 750!). If I had the money to buy my own machine it would be a Barudan. Quality stuff
Makin' stitches my bitches.
Re: Is Barudan any good?
In my opinion Barudans are the BEST MACHINES i have ever seen or used.
So reliable and so durable... with EXCELLENT stitch quality.
I own 2 Barudans 12 heads each and i am more than happy with the quality it delivers.
 Almost 12000 satisfied customers enjoying just half the price.

Re: Is Barudan any good?
I have the Barudan Single Head 15 needle machine. BEVT Series Elite Pro. I purchased this machine about 6 months ago. It was very easy for me to learn how to use it, and my work comes out gorgeous for a beginner. I use Wilcom digitizing software and that is also a gem, expensive but a gem. I have been doing digitizing for years as I am a graphic artist, but this is the first time I am doing retail embroidery. I also have a Barudan Chenille machine. The one thing I must say is no matter what company you go with you will always have problems with Tech support. You have to call Barudan then they will call you back. My expierence on that shows it takes about 1-3 hours for them to call you back sometimes the next day. That got frustrating at first, but now I havent called them in a long time.
