Direct-to-Garment Industry

I can see the niche for this type of industry. Can someone tell me roughly when does this type of technology become too costly versus screen printing? Is there a magic number or range a order needs to stop at before it's too costly?

How long has this technology been around and are the newer machines more reliable?

well, thats a tough one. if you are talking light color shirts, then a business case can be made for this machine. Darks still take way to long to print (IMHO). My Brother GT541 (never had 1 problems in 11,000 prints) can do 35-40 shirts per hour realistically. Thats not to bad for a multi color run no matter if you are doing dtg or traditional sp. now, traditional screen print will kill my production numbers on single color white shirts. 100+ an hour is realistic.

so, it all boils down to what your business plan is and what market you are targeting. For me, we use a mixture of DTG and traditional SP. Checkout this website. They have an ROI calculator that is pretty good at the bottom of the page. Worth checking into.
