I need recommendations for RIP software and possible separations software. My background is that I am self-taught, home-made even.... mostly DIY and usually on the cheap. But now I have employees and need to speed up all pre-press tasks and make them more fool-proof, so that I don't have to do it all and my employees are not staring out the window. Getting art onto film is usually time consuming and I am the only one with know-how currently. Any advice appreciated. (Axing employees is not an option unfortunately)
Re: Film preparation & Pre-press efficiency
What program are you designing in? Corel? Photoshop?
As for RIP, I started using Filmmaker this year and it was the best money I spent this year.
Have a great day! :)

I like & supply Wasatch, but most RIP packages will do a job to most people's satisfaction.

Designing in Illustrator and Photoshop, on a Mac. I would like to be able to pass on the separations process too, but without having to teach all about Photoshop. Anyone know of a good easy separations software? Thanks for your input on RIP software.

All the separation softwares are Photoshop macros, they all do a reasonable job

Quikseps is what use in PS and have been very impressed with the outcome. Still learning it but so far, I'm very pleased.

Re: Film preparation & Pre-press efficiency
I had an email from INKSOFT, and it was about Seperation Soft sold by Ryonet for $895 as a Photoshop plugin, and I must say it looked very good, have yet to download and trial, but it looks quick, simple and easy. In saying that we have a full timer who just seps normally in Photoshop, corel and illustrator as well as art etc, but if it can make his job faster then that's even better. We also have EASYART another Photoshop plugin form image conversion and converting files to simulated process, which some believe is a better version than fastart etc.

Has anyone tried SpotMe ($99) from Steve Yates?
