FREE Digitizing

Robert Young's picture

This community has given me SO much it is time I gave more back.

If you have something PERSONAL that you would like to sew... by that I mean it is not business related but totally personal... send me a message either on here or in private with the details and if I believe in the project I will do the digitizing for no charge... you still have to do the embroidery though. Please sew the design on pellon or scrap fabric first of course and I will modify as you request before you sew on the actual items.

For examples: a son's or daughter's wedding..... a Church related item.... a friend has Cancer or some other disease, a club or group you belong to and want to help them out, a neighbor you would like to do something nice for, a grandchild you want to sew something for, etc... PERSONAL... not for business

Do not get mad if I don't do it, it really depends on how you come across and if I believe it is not to make money, sorry..... I want to share embroidery in a way that is personal.

Hope this makes sense? not doing free digitizing for you that has the Wendys or FORD logo on it for example.

Hi Guys,

Gosh Robert I am surprised that no one is taking you up on your offer. It is frustrating to give things up for free isn't it?

I have been offering EmbroideryWare for free for about three months and have had some good traffic. I was hoping for more. Maybe free is too free for most people. They might think "nothing in life is free, there must be a catch".

Great Robert! I like your designs!

What type of designs would you be interested in doing? I have a picture of my old black Labrador and an old black cat. I have tried working on them some but with all the black it is hard for me to figure how to get definition without becoming a blob! If either or both of these are what you had in mind I could send them tonight. Thanks.
Jim

What a lovely, generous offer. I'm sure you will get some designs that will benefit from your creativity.

this sounds totally personal and exactly what I would love to help with! Are you thinking head shots or full bodied? what size(s)? I will upload three types of embroidery to try to find out what you are hoping to expect. We can do two of the three I am thinking , but not the third. (but that one is really computerized and anyone with a Pulse or Wilcom should be able to knock that out easily)

this is a type of embroidery that we cannot achieve here due to our software... it can use as many colors as possible and has a VERY realistic look, but it also has about 50,000 stitches per 3X5 inch area and MANY MANY color changes... but if it is a "one off" then it would be ok I would think... anyone with Wilcom and I think Pulse can do this type of stitch automatically (as in 2 minutes) for you. just remember the run time will be long and the color changes can be astronomical... 88 for this design!

this is a 1 color type of Photostitch that we can do... it is great for a sepia tone type look, old photo type. this is my third type I am thinking of... and again, this is all 1 color, and a lot of stitches, but since it is software generated it takes all of 2 minutes. just depends on what look you are going for? hope these help?

Well, over 200 views and only ONE person has contacted me and it was a design they were having problems with but it wasn't their fault, the client just wanted too too much from them... their work was great, but they did not have the tools to teach.

My hypothesis, as stated in other threads throughout the years, is that there is a difference between a digitizer/embroiderer who is just in it for a "job" and those that have some sort of passion and love for what they do.

Which type do you want to work with?

hey robert...i had one that i thought you might be interested in, but PMed your for your direct email address so i could shoot the artwork over to you. i didn't want to post it in here. i haven't heard back from them tho...

jim, black animals are definitely a challenge! i usually do them in black, then highlights and details in varying shades of grey. either that, or do the main color as a very dark charcoal with black and grey details.

Ok, over 500 views and 3 bites.... but no followups... seriously? ego issues here if I cannot GIVE stuff away... sad as I own the largest digitizing house in the US! yikes... so they will PAY for my work but no one will take FREE? Oh well... don't look a gift horse in the mouth I guess. lol.

Personally after 20 years without a logo my guess is you probably DON'T NEED ONE! seriously. You have a good thing going, don't overthink it.

I understand it though... for most it is just a "job"... not a passion. that is fine. They work for a living and I feel I haven't worked a day in decades! It is still FUN for me.

for your software I can see probably only New-To-The Industry people giving you a shot... I have been using my software since the beginning of software for digitizing...(Digitrac before that) so I realistically cannot see me changing... old dog new trick thing.... and if I Were to change it would be to Wilcom. My fear is the slowdown in volume of work produced per day and Quality of work necessary to maintain our client base precludes me from switching.
