I can't get my computer to read my security key is there some configuring I need to do to my computer the security is in tightly

Sorry to here of your misfortune. Unless you insured your setup you will be stuck with the charges set by the company. This is not "Bad Customer Service" to me it is "Great Customer Service"!

Software Pirating is rampant, do a search for Digitizing Software on Google, Bing or whatever and you will fine offshore and onshore sites/torrents that have illegal software for sale/download. By being strict in their policy on replacing security keys/dongles the various companies do their best to protect those who purchase & use their software, these keys allow for upgrades and updates to improve your products to keep you above those using illegal software.

On the same token, how many out there have actually read the EULA on your Digitizing Software? The vast majority of companies that provide the digitizing software specify that it is to only be installed on "ONE" computer at a time with or without the security key. How many have it installed on an on-site business computer and a home computer or laptop? If you do you are in violation of the EULA that could actually wind you up in court! It doesn't matter if you only use it when you swap your security key. I personally know of several businesses that violated the EULA on their software and were located due to updates on several computers with the same security key, legal warrants were issued, computers were taken, checked and found to be in violation of the EULAs and the owners were given the choice of going to court or closing down.

Is it Worth It! Only you can decide!

...so how do you design on Corel? and how, then, do you get it into a .dst format??

not sure since his post is over 3 years old, but he might have used CorelDraw.. a Wings program affiliate? that would allow him to output to dst. But he also may have meant when he took his laptop to a client he just did the design in Corel to show them what it would look like.. leaving his digitizing software and dongle safely at home where he later would punch the file to produce a dst output?? either would make sense.

wow i'm not the only one with the problem..i purchased a new coputer and it does see the device. so now i can't upgrade my computer

By 'toggle swith' do you mean the dongle or security device? Do you mean "i bought it new from them and they won't help"

That's terrible, but unfortunately dealers will not just give you a replacement even if you offer to pay a fee. They would want you to buy the whole thing again.

yeah its a dongle but swf calls it a toggle switch, they want another 1500 dollars...bad cusstomer service....

"bad customer service"

Not really, you have to get out of the consumer mode and put yourself in a business mode. I do computer consulting during the day and commercial software is expensive to buy, expensive to program and expensive to support. I have installed packages that cost 50K and more and the company lost a dongle, cost them 5K. I believe SWF has stopped support Daystar, the cheapest route is to pay the $1500 and see if your insurance company will cover it, hopefully you have a commercial policy and not a homeowners rider.

Welcome to the forums sewspecial, Marcy, and Joe :)

It may seem unfair sewspecial, but unfortunately, there is really nothing you can do. It's not just SWF who does this, every digitizing software provider I know of do not give free replacements on security devices that have gone missing. However a damaged security device is another story.

As Joe pointed out, next time insure your security device/dongle.

What a bad experience it must be for you, sewspecial :(

This almost happened to me!!! I had a nephew clean my computer inside and out this spring. He somehow misplaced the security thing, or so he thought. Anyways after one whole afternoon of searching we came up empty. So I decided to contact my dealer before they closed for the day and I was informed I had to buy the whole damn thing again! He kindly explained to me that he could not just give another one because he doesn't make the software or the security thing and that he also has to purchase them and that although I was a good customer it's all about business and money doesn't grow on trees. He then kind of said 'I told you so' about getting it insured as Joe hinted on. Anyways, it turned out that my nephew's little brother took it to play with (he's 5) and put it in his bagpack before he went out to the park to play that day. I got the security thing back in the evening that day.

I have a daystar level 5 embroidery softwear, can't get my computer to read the security key any suggestion

Unfortunately if you lost it you are pretty much out of luck. Sorry to say.

Speaking of insurance and insuring your dongle. A friend of mine just bought a copy of Wilcom Level 3, he financed it through some lease agency, and they actually made him insure the dongle and he had to send them a copy of the insurance binder!
Not a bad idea actually.

Sadly I have to agree with all the others here. You have to insure it. Even if it is stolen from your shop or home and it is insured you must telephone the Police and get a written report saying that you where actually broken into and the device was stolen.
I used to go out to see customers with my laptop and the dongle. Tried to get it insured, not possible when it is outside the shop or home. So now I only take the laptop and do the designs in Corel.
All because people Pirate/Copy software.
Good luck
