Help! How to embroider design that has to be hooped twice?

Hi all,

Once again I am in a pickle and need some advice. I have to embroider some karate belts with names going vertically, and with the size lettering I have to use, there is no way I can get the whole design embroidered only hooping once. I'd like to use my Hooptech clamp to do these if possible, but it only has a 5.5x5.5 working area, so I will need to move the hoop. I have no idea how to best go about this....should I put in multiple starts and stops? How do I do that? Is there another way that might be better? I would appreciate your advice as the customer managed to wait until the very last minute and needs these all on Friday...

Thanks!

I know you dont have time to order it with this order but you may want to look at http://www.fastframes.com/dogcollar.htm for next time. You can find it cheaper if you shop around.

You can try breaking the letters in the name up into 3 or 4 letters at a time. I would place a piece of tape or use a sharpie to put marks on my hoop to line it up. That will keep the letters in the middle of the belt. The spacing between the letters will take some experimentation.

The big challenge you will have is keeping the belt straight in the hoop. iIf you dont have it tight enough it will probably bend while its stitching. You might try a bigger hoop with sticky backing or adhesive spray.

Good Luck.

I agree with Dennis, you need a bigger hoop! If you're talking about a hoopmaster mighty hoop then I understand why you'd want to use it. But... Take a hoop that fits the design and then hoop with sticky backing. Figure out where the design goes and Make marks on your hoop where the belt should be. Here's the fun part. I would take a razor knife and cut out a rectangle where it would be on the design. Then cut however many you have to do on the sticky that will cover your hole you just made (maybe 1" around it). Put it on the bottom over the hole. Take your belt and push it on a flat surface to the sticky and then take 2 binder clips (the black office supply clips) and secure each side of the belt to the large hoop. Put in the machine and embroider. After embroidering take the hoop out and rip away the sticky on the bottom and it should come off the other sticky (mine does anyway). Then repeat ad nauseum. I use binder clips on all my fast frames because my sticky isn't good enough to stick to the garment and not mess with the thread. And I hate sticky backing so a lot of times I just use regular tearaway or cutaway with my FF too.

Per a suggestion on another forum, I ended up just using my jacket back hoop, marking two measuring points on it, and then just used masking tape to hold the belt in place. Worked like a charm! Thank you all for your suggestion, I probably need to look into some fast frames as I will likely be doing more dog collars and horse halters in the future...and maybe some more karate belts :)
