Looking to buy a new DTG

United States

I know that there has been previous threads about what to buy, but they all seem to be from years ago. I am a small clothing business that is looking to expand to more designs and offer small runs to other customers to help offset the cost of the machine. I am looking to pay between 8 and 12K with a financing plan. I have looked at T-Jet and a few others, but the salesmen will never tell you the problems with their machines only the upside. Most of my current printing is on Black all cotton shirts 6.5 oz. I want the capabilities though to Print on the following surfaces: Dark Colors, Shirt Pockets, Sleeves, Hats, Sweatshirts, Canvas, etc. Any input is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

DTG for u . dtg is good machien for your best choice

Have just purchased a DTG Machine in November, but since we are a two person team we need to spend more time out in the field selling and the machine is not getting the time needed to make money. Want to sell the machine and will take a loss. Payed 15,000 and am willing to take 10,000 for it. It is brand new. We have printed maybe a total of 300 shirts on the machine.

Since I sell ink for all Garment Printers (except Brother) I can tell you the most popular machines on the market are the DTG and the Anajet. Both have their upsides and downsides, however they both print very well.

Service wise, they both a decent reputation. I always get a call from someone who wants to throw their machine out the window, however over all, people are pleased.

There will be a lot of trade shows coming up this new year. Hopefully you will have time and are close to one

Here is my honest take on this. I think the two top of the line machines would have to be the Brother (GT782) mcahine and Kornit (storm or avalanche). They are $50,000 ++.
Here is what the sales reps wont tell you:
1) Print heads have to be replaced yearly (incuding the top of the line printers).
2) It would take you 6mos to year to recoop your money for replacing the heads.
3) You have to print something EVERY DAY so the heads do not clog up (This is one hour a day maintenance).
4)YOu have to print white EVERY DAY so the heads do not clog up
5) You are now wasting ink just to make sure that the heads do not clog up. How much does ink cost?
6)To print on Black you have to pre-treat each dark t-shirt. IF you do not pre treat properly- your white ink might not lay down properly.
7) Dont even get me going on color calibration to make you arte printing red ink and not magenta or pink.
8) PRICES ARE Outrageous.
9) Im using a thermo film and doing fine...everything else gets screen printed/ we own screen print machines and have been wanting to add a Digital Garment Printer but not with all that headache....I have a friend in another state that bought the Brother..and he says dont waste my time..(My friend is the manager of the shop/the "boss" bought themachine, but my friend says its a waste of time and $$, and they have had to replace the heads on it and get maintenence/ just so you know their company burns 300 screen a DAY!.
10) One more thing- the manufacturers charge you extra for attachments.
