Looking to put a toe in the water...

What are some of the most basic machines that you can get that will accept DST files?

I don't mind changing threads out for a single needle machine as we just can't afford 5k plus for a multi-needle machine right now.

But I am leaving money on the table and loosing jobs because of over priced contract embroider (I just don't think they want the contract work).

Of course I'd like a large sewing area but could compromise that and just suck it up and contract out larger jobs.

Right now I have a 5 shirt left chest two color job that I'm going to sub out. Only 4.50 a place BUT that's 40 bucks towards the cost of the machine if I had one right now and it's a very simple job that a single needle machine would be fine for. Not to mention I wouldn't be at the mercy of my contractors time line. Plus the wife could add embroidery to her baby clothes line we already have going.

I know someone who knows someone that has a Brother PE-770 and they like it... BUT it doesn't accept DST files.

Anyone know where I should be looking?

Oh, would also like/need to be able to do hats.

Go for machine and you have added business benefits for your wife work as well

PES format needed for that machine but many of my clients aslo want DST format, i think that also takes DST format

Not sure what you are saying.... but the PE-770 does not accept DST according to Brother's website.

Is PES fairly standard? I've only used DST (and by used I mean, got from a digitizer and handed to my embroider). I don't want to end up with a limited fileformat that I can't really utilize for all jobs.

Are there DST to PES converters? If so, do they work well?
