I have just started screenprinting out of my garage on the side. I currently only have 4 screens, so I am going to be purchasing more. I am wondering what is the most versatile mesh size. A good size for doing type heavy art and for holding details on an image? I also want to be able to do four color process printing with these screens.

For printing big heavy blocks of color, and mainly for printing white, 110 to 156 is the best. For detailed artwork and half-tones, go with 156 to 230. Four color process, 230 to 300.
Just remember that the finer the detail, the higher the mesh count you should use to hold the emulsion so it won't get pushed out through the fibers. The higher mesh will also help you to avoid dot gain when printing process or other half-tone prints.
