I want to start making patches. I have considered buying blank patches and then embroidering them, but have no clue on how this is done, and there is not much on the web about it. I would like information on how to make patches and also how to embroider existing patches. To embroider, is there a backing that is hooped and then the patch is applied to the backing with spray adhesive?

There is a lot of equipment to buy for starters. you need a good machine, the knowledge of digitizing and design, quality color fast thread, a merrower for the edges. and there is a ton more options you can add to that. such as Velcro, Felt, Leather, Laser Cutters, Gems, Glue, tape back, like I say tons.
If you want blanks there are embroidery shops on the web that can sell you some quality ones. an embroidery you get what you pay for.
