Old Melco question

A friend of mine has an old Melco single needle commercial machine and has replaced the head with a Tajima. It uses floppies or a direct cable to a pc. I have tried to find info and read somewhere that these don't work with newer pc's - like you need to use DOS, not Windows. She can't find the model number on it and she is unsure of the age since she also bought it used. It works fine for her but she doesn't know much about computers so she has no idea what operating system she has. She's not close enough for me to go and look in person so I am trying to get info just from her description.

Does anyone here know if it is worth anything without having a 15 year old computer to go with it?:D

Its not the computer necessarily. Melco created their own network, so you need a starlan card, and their software to communicate with the machine.

Thanks. She said it probably wasn't worth much because she had no software. I wonder how she is running it now though.
