Hello,
I am getting a new Barudan 6 head delivered tomorrow, I have been looking around to see if there is a preferred way to load your Cones in a certain color order? 1=Black 2=white ect.... I apologize for this newbie question, but I really would like to get it right the first time......
Thank you in advance for any input.

Re: spool color placement on a 15 needle Barudan 6 head
There's no special order to doing this, but I would bear in mind a few things which might help decide what suits you best.
Basically, these colours, together with your basic red, yellow, blue, and green, will stay put except for replacing empty cones. Therefore it might be best to put them in the most awkward places on the thread holder. That will allow you to change other colours more easily.
Another thing to consider, although very minor, is how far the needles have to move after each change. So if you put black and white on needles 7 and 8, the most the head would have to move would be to 1 or 15. For example, sometimes you will have a design that sews a part, then changes to do a black outline, then back to sew some more, then more outline, etc. Putting black and white on the middle needles will reduce the running time!
The only other consideration might be needle wear. If your machine is easier changing needles at either side you may feel it helps to put the colours that run the most there, as needles will need swapping more often for them.
Peronally, I would have them in the middle needles for both of the first reasons, but I know most seem to stick with 1 and 2, even though there is no logic to it!
Ultimately, these are all very minor in the grand scheme of things, so I wouldn't wring your hands over it!

Wow! Thank you so much for the response. I never thought of thread distance, reducing needle time. I love your advice and will be following it! Thank you so much. If I were threading only one head I would not worry so much, but 6, I feel I better get it right or I will be spending alot of wasted time.
Thanks again!!!

Re: spool color placement on a 15 needle Barudan 6 head
Ours are loaded so that the colors we use all the time stay on the machine just behind the head. I have the following:
black #3
green#5
royal #7
white #8
silver #10
gold #13
red #15
I don't worry about vertical travel of the head as we change the thread out so often I'm not moving the thread to limit the movement of the head. If you have something you are doing 1000's of that makes sense.
If you get a design that has more than 15 colors you'll need a stop in the software to enable the change. I don't do that often but have had to before. We always use needle 1, 6, or 11 in that case.
