My teenage daughter (who's never expressed an interest in anything other than cellphone texting) has recently become interested in machine embroidery. I would like to encourage this interest, as well as possibly developing an interest for my younger 8-year-old daughter.
She is most interested in embroidering names and silly phrases on clothing and paper (never even imagined that could be done!). I would like to indulge her interest in this hobby, and am interested in purchasing a simple, basic embroidery-only machine. As I have begun researching this purchase, I quickly developed a headache! There seem to be so many makes and models available! I would appreciate some advice on the best makes and models to look into, that also will not cost a fortune. Thank you!

Sometimes you can get more feedback at sites that are tailored more for the home embroiderer. Here is a good site for that http://sewforum.com/index.php
