I have recently added mugs to my product range. Generally I am delighted with the results, in spite of the fact that the instructions that came with the mug press gave the process time as 15 seconds!!!

I have since found that a duration of 3 mins gives good results.

The only problem I now have is that on the finished mug, I do not get true blacks. They look very warm, almost a rusty brown. Other clours are fine.

Is this due to the inks or is there a variation in time/temperature that will give better results?

I am currently working with 180 degrees temp and 180 secs time.

Can anyone help?

I use the Sublimation Sublijet ink in my Ricoh 3300. I heat in mug press for 4 mins at 100 Degree's. If the black turns to a icky brownm i lower the time to 3.5 mins or lower the heat to 350 for 4 mins. Different mugs wil require differnt times and temp. I've use Conde Mugs, Johnson Plastics, and now using Costal Graphics. Some coatings or sprayed on and others or dipped. This too will make difference. ALSO Like Johnson they have different ratings if that is the right word. I alway pay more for he better quality mugs as not all mugs are created equal in size or quality. Experiment... Also correct pressure will play a part in the sublimation process! Hope this helped!

Try a temp of 385 and 2 mins heat time with 2 mins cool time, I found this to work best for me and blacks came out just fine.
