I am looking to start a small embroidery business focusing mainly on infant and childrens clothing. I have a small bernina embroidery machine but I am wanting another machine (probably commercial) to go with it. I mainly am looking for something that does several colors at a time and that will do the infant onesies fast and easily. The machine I have now does not work well with the onsies. I end up getting the back of the shirts caught up in the stiching. I really need something that allows the back of the shirt to hang down out of the way of the stiching. Hopefully someone will understand what I am talking about and help me out...please...any help is greatly apprecitated.
Re: Anyone with experience in infants clothes
I think most commercial machines will eliminate that problem. I own the Melco Amaya in my shop. There is not a faster machine on the market. I can do 1500 spm on flats and 1200 spm on hats. Now I normally don't run it wide open but I have before. I usually run it around 1200/flat and 1000/hats whenever possible. It is a 16 neddle machine. I really like it. I think it is easy to learn and use. However, that being said, there are several machine out there that can do the job and probably won't cost near as much. These are not cheap peices of equipment. You can get a refurbished unit from Melco that does come with warranty for less money.
I would also look at Tajima and Happy if I were you. I looked at the Happy but didn't like my local distributor and decided to go with the Melco. I also have a friend that loves her Tajima and has just added a 4-head to her shop. This time of year there are usually screenprint & embroidery shows all over. I would check out one of them and put hands on several machines and go from there.
