Sad Amount of Dealer adds

Idaho United States

Does anyone else have a problem, no longer getting a good deal on used equipment because the "dealers" are snatching them up and wiping the dust off and reselling them for thousands more. There should be a separate thread for Dealer and one for Owners.

The other problem is they charge a fee in order to post on here. I have bought and sold a TON of screen printing and embroidery equipment but all on craigslist because it is free to post ads on their site. Even ebay doesn't hit you with a fee until you sell the item. I consider this basically just a dealer site. Seems even the regular people are asking close to new retail prices on used equipment. I saw some used embroidery hoops on here the other day going for more than I could get them for new, only a few bucks more but really... They could improve this site considerably if they lifted the membership fee, IMO. They would get more clicks on their ads=more money.

I really don't understand what the complaints are for. If the site's model doesn't suit your needs, wants or your idea of what a used equipment sales site then why are you here? I don't want to run anyone off but damn, it sounds like people complaining because they have nothing better to do. Brokers and equipment dealers use this site because it works for them I guess. Seems like plenty of listings and if you can't get something because someone else gets to it first then how is that Digitsmith's fault?

There are plenty of places to list equipment for free if you don't want to pay to list here. Seems like if this place was so awful it wouldn't get much traffic but it seems to be doing ok so ownership is probably fine with the way things are. I don't get anything for moderating because quite frankly I don't have time to really moderate the site any longer but at times I can do some things to clean up but it's not very often.

I'm not trying to **** anyone off but I was asked to come here and check this thread out and after reading it I had realized I just lost 10 minutes of my life I will never get back. I don't want anyone to take my comments personally but I know it will happen, but it's not my intent to get into an argument with anyone over the site's activities.

Inside Out's picture

I get both sides of it and even more. I've been a member here for around 5 years and it's a great place to buy from other store owners when they're upgrading or closing. That's why I signed up. Lately I've been watching the embroidery machines because I'm looking to upgrade soon. It bums me out when I find what I'm looking for and before I can even message them I see the brokers have already bought it then a few weeks to a month later it's back on this site marked up $15k. There's nothing technically wrong with that, they're just trying to make a living. I just have to be faster with messaging to get it before the mark up. Just disappointing is all when I want to buy from another shop and the brokers swoop in.

First, I am not a dealer but I understand the need for dealers. When buying equipment from businesses you are usually going to have equipment issues to resolve, getting a warranty from a closing business is fantasy! The dealers buy and often refurbish this equipment and that comes at a cost but also comes with piece of mind. I don't know about most businesses, but I would rather get the equipment into my operation ASAP and start making money, NOT trying to figure out what's wrong with it and spend countless hours on a phone with tech support. The only reason any of us are on this site is to make money PERIOD!!! If you take your time and don't jump when the opportunity presents itself, then that's your problem not Digitsmith's problem. Part of being in business is being able to take calculated risks, being indecisive is recipe for failure in the long run......

I currently have a used 2005 SWF single head, 15 needle embroidery machine if anyone is interested. Great working condition. Just closing our business.

I am a dealer in used equipment and also sell parts and service machinery, and yes I aim to get machines at a fair price in order to keep my business alive, I have no idea why there is an issue with that, no different than car dealers ,only they get to buy there used cars from auction at drastically reduced prices and mark them up considerably , I give a warranty in as best a way I can. But sometimes it is almost impossible to warranty a machine that has shipped 3000 miles, in saying that I never had an issue with my machines as I always go through them thoroughly before I send them , and convert them to USB readers. if there is a particular machine you are looking for or parts, or hoops or advice don't feel bad calling me as one thing I pride myself on is I do not charge for advice even if it's on a piece of machinery I don't have for sale.

I don't have a problem with dealers and their ads. Just the ones that spam the threads with nearly their entire inventory. I suggest putting all their inventory into a list with pricing and keep it in all in one thread.
