Joe, you may have mentioned this before so I apologize if I missed it.
#1. What kind of machine do you have?
#2. Do you have any kind of lettering or digitizing software?
So to answer your question. We use Hoop Master. http://www.hoopmaster.com/ . It is very simple to use. Provided that they make a system for your machine. It may be something you want to invest in, maybe not. There again it's all about the return on investment based on your current volume or what you thing your volume will grow into so it justifies the investment. Case in point, I had to do a fishing shirt on the back flap (one of those Columbia shirts) that required a 290x300 hoop. Now mind you, I invested $300 bucks for what I needed (hoops and hoop station so I could hoop it straight) so I could do this one shirt, but we live close to the gulf coast and I figured we would get some business off that one shirt. I am now getting ready to do an order to pay for it.
One thing I would recommend is to go to an ISS show and look at the different systems.
Another thing for sure is, you did the right thing and came here because there is a wealth of information. Some opinions ar biased, some are not, some are good, some are not. I learned right away, what machine I needed to buy and I also found my digitizer on here. After tonight though, I think he is ready to fire me. He really is a great guy and he makes my business life easier.
Don't get discouraged is #1 priority. Don't be afraid to ask questions (even if it for directions) is #2
And by the way, I started 3 months ago.
OK, it's getting late and I need to stop rambling, but I hope you get where I am coming from.
Cheers,
Glenn

Re: sleeves
I prefer Fast Frames for sleeve designs because its easy to "hoop" with the right placement.
