Name is Alan Johnston, most of you know me and what I do, but I'll tell it all again. I don't know what my title would be as I do whatever it is that needs to be done for my family's business, which is mostly related to running the screen printing department. I guess I could be called just a production supervisor, but I think my duties expand beyond what most supers do. My background is not in this industry though, I've got degrees in Geography and Land Use Planning and Business Management and worked for a few environmental consultant companies doing 3rd party inspections in the air quality fields and construction sites. Got bored with that really quickly and decided to join the family business. I had to learn how to print like most do, just thrown in the fire and learned mostly by making mistakes and learning from them. I mostly enjoy discussing the technical aspects of the printing process and automatic equipment. I would like to continue growing my knowledge in all areas of screen printing and maybe get into being a consultant in some capacity once I learn enough to really be effective in teaching others. I love the mechanical engineering aspects of the machinery and understanding how/why things work the way they do. I have absolutely no artistic abilities and everything I understand and do is purely technical and scientific. That does hurt my growth in that I am not really able to get into the design side of screen printing and like to stay on the printing and mechanical side. I envy those who have that artistic ability but I am grateful that at least I have something to give on the technical aspects of printing. That's enough for now.

Alan, I'm real excited to see you are a moderator here. You provide lots of valuable information to the boards.

I feel you on the artistic side of things!
