I have a 12ft 36" wide Lawson 3 panel dryer with forced air that I would like to vent as the heat coming out the top heats up the shop quite a bit. The thing is it needs to be temporary and can't go thru the ceiling. I want to vent it out the rollup door which is about 20ft away. What do I need to buy? Will the flexible stuff you use for your clothes dryer work? On the dryer it does not have an attachment just a hole in the top, what will I need there? You can probably tell I'm not very mechanical but I think I can tackle this lol.

Re: venting my dryer, what do i need to do?
Flex pipe as long as it is the metal kind will work for TEMPORARY. I recommend on Any dryer that you size up 2" larger than the point of exhaust "
If you have 4" go 6", you have 6" go 8" etc.! Keep any bends as gradual
as possible going in an upward manner. Hot air naturaly rises, and with the
larger diameter pipe it will help keep static pressures down in the exhaust,
which not only improves airflow,it will help add life to the exhaust fan. It
suprises me when I go into a shop and see lots of smoke, and the clowns
REDUCED the pipe to save money! Go Figure!
Good Luck,

Re: venting my dryer, what do i need to do?
Thanks Winston. You say exhaust fan. What type and where does it go? At the start of the pipe or the end?
Re: venting my dryer, what do i need to do?
If your dryer doesn't have one, then put one at the END pulling the heat out. If you go at the start make sure it's one that can survive a high heat environment as they can melt if not. LOL
Go look at Peter's Chaparral to see how ours are setup, they have 8" ports with fans built right in.

Winston, come join us over at The Shirt Board... there is a dryer vent discussion that I'd LOVE to get your input on over there right now.
Much better climate over there anyway, I think your input would be much appreciated.

Re: venting my dryer, what do i need to do?
I figured the end would be the way to go. How do you figure out what size you need?
Re: venting my dryer, what do i need to do?
Speed wise?
Hmm... don't think it needs to be too fast.. but it should be the same diameter as your piping.
Again, a trip to Peter if he's close enough would give you a feel for how much air flow comes out of his dryer. :)

I should've paid more attention to Peters equipment when I was there but I was to excited about the auto. He is about a 4 hour drive so ill have to figure it out.

Ah... I wish I had one of those little wind meters. Oh well.

Re: venting my dryer, what do i need to do?
I went with a variable speed duct fan that can be used in range hood or bathroom applications. In the winter we have it dialed way down to get rid of fumes/smoke but still let the oven radiate a little heat. In the Summer we dial it up a little to keep the outside of the oven cooler.
