Any value in equipment brokers?

Prosperi-Tees's picture

First off I have no respect for so called brokers that peruse Craigslist and other sites and reposts them on Digitsmith and mark it up a few thousand dollars. What a sham. No work and big payday, guess that's what lazy people look for, easy money and gullible people.

So what do you think about equipment brokers? Only 2 that I know in existence that actually have value to what they do are Bill Foust and CGS. Any others?

I am a new /used equipment dealer and will from time to time broker machines at my customers request, I will also fully service a machine before I send it. when I search for machine after a full day of working I can spend hours doing so, negotiating a price, spending my hard earned cash, crating shipping and then servicing it when I get it.
I have spent 30 years in my trade certified as an engineer and employ people but because you feel that this buck is easy earned ???? or you dont have the drive and where with all to get the machines and move on them before we buy them you decide to have a go at us for our drive, wisdom and education.
Now what can I sell you ?

What you just said has value, you buy it, service and make sure it's in good working order. Did I say there is no value in that? No I didn't so don't be a prick.

Facts:
* 42 days is a long time to wait for something that is clakmed in stock
* before I purchased I was told: 2 - 10 x 22 (Please allow 2-3 business days to recover)
* I paid for the pallets on 11/28
* I requested tracking number on 12/2, followed up again on 12/12 and 12/14
* Called twice. First time will told me they dropped the ball and would send that week. Second time the lady said Will would call me back and I never got a call back.
* they shipped the item to the wrong location even though I gave will the right address and it is also in my email sig
* we only received the item today since it was shipped to wrong location
* I've bought twice from foust always received my items but probably would not buy again

More facts: yesterday bill called me and was angry that I posted this on a public forum without contacting him first aside from the multiple emails and phone calls. I explained the lack of communication from his team re shipping my items was disconcerting and we had still not received the items. he explained to me that it was my fault for delayed shipping since I took 15 days to pay from the time that we contacted him originally. I told him we had still not received and he failed to take responsibility for shipping to wrong address. Bill also took time to tell me that he "didn't like my business practices" and our phone system sucks. Thanks for the feedback! Bill has also picked up the phone and called me an asshhole - verbatim - because I have a 415 number and he thought I was Dave McLain. I let it slide that time but ok

Also bill claimed I never got a tracking number because they don't send unless you specifically request. Oh wait I have email requesting tracking on 12/12.

Anyways I wouldn't have bothered to even write all this since I got the stuff. However bills call and complete lack of empathy and care about his wallet and online reputation prompted me to put it all out there. So we think a little bit before you speak.

What the heck are you talking about???? Are you talking to me???

And how do you know that when someone brokers a machine that they don't do the same before they actually ship it ! No need for the road rage by the way .

since he basically called me a liar here are screenshots of my conversation with mr foust and his employee, and the multiple follow ups that received no response. i also requested a tracking number multiple times that was never sent.

Never any mention of two to three weeks in the emails sent to me or phone calls. There was one set of pallets that needed to be recovered. They could have sent 2 shipments or sent the damn pallet rubber and let us do it.

Anyways I got what I ordered from Bill the three times I ordered from him. This last time though the customer service was bad which I would have let it slide. But Bill wanted to call me up and let me know how much he didn't care to hear about my opinion about the delayed service so here it all is for the public to see. Enjoy Bill.

Did you say I called Dave McClain an ***hole? That's outrageous.

I am sorry your deal was not as expected. We did notify you you of the lead time in advance. We started quoting you prices and specifics on November 12th, you finally ordered the merchandise on November 29th (uh that 17 days). Half of our staff left that day for California of a two week project. Our customer service told you at that point, the lead time would be out at least 3-4 weeks. With the holidays we were a few days late. I believe you overreacted..... period.

Did you say I called Dave McClain an ***hole? That's outrageous.

Everyone of us tries our best to satisfy the customer and their needs, some people feel they need the deal of the century on used equipment and it must be delivered the next day FED EX priority with us paying the freight. Sorry we didn't deliver to your expectations.

Sorry things didn't work out better this time Mike. You are right we have dealt in the past with good results.

You were quoted "used pallets" on November 14th, by the time you paid (November 28th) the ones you were quoted, had sold. What we had left remaining in inventory were sporting bad rubber tops. We re-covered these and shipped pallets with new rubber for $15.00 each, you agreed to this price increase (and the new rubber) with the additional lead time. With the new rubber these were essentially new pallets (10" x 22") for $85.00 each. Today these are $165.00 each new from M&R.

I think we are a more than fair deal, even if a few days late.

Regarding Merch Monster's comments. They paid for the pallets on November 29th, at that time they requested the pallets be re-covered with new rubber tops. They were told this would require 2-3 weeks due to to prior commitments, they said Okay. The pallets shipped on December 27th (including the holidays 28 days from placing the order) attached is the FED EX log with pick up and delivery dates. The pallets arrived on January 4th, they are complaining three days after delivery of the pallets. I don't get get it, how can in be easier to publicly complain than check on your shipment with your receiving personnel?

The total time from order to delivery was 33 days (not two months) in addition this time period included two holidays. The receiver was closed for 11 days during this period.

How the logical next step is a public hammering is beyond me.
