You can do whatever you want! lol, in my opinion I couldn't see how this would make a very stable stabilizer.
Re: Doctors exam table paper as backing?
I figure it may wotk on towels! Gonna try it on a scrap and see!
Re: Doctors exam table paper as backing?
let us know how it worked for you... I also think it would not hold the fabric enough to be worth the cutting time or the number of layers needed. But after testing let us know. thanks.
For years we have used the cardboard inserts that come inside hats as stabilizer.. it really helps control the low profile 6 panel hats.

Re: Doctors exam table paper as backing?
Robert, do you find you need to change needles more often when using the cardboard? I have heard of others using it but have never tried it myself. I am always scared to stray away from more traditional methods. You use the cardboard often? Does it tear away easily? What if the customer washes it?
Re: Doctors exam table paper as backing?
I schedule needles to be replaced on a more frequent interval than most shops would so I would be a good judge of whether the cardboard had much effect on them. Most of what we do is higher priced fabrics and art pieces so to me it is worth the added expense just to remove needles from any quality equation. To me the cardboard is already there.. nothing to cut down to size, just seemed easier and it really works to firm up the hat sewing area.

Sounds like an innovative idea. Do tell how that turned out for you
Re: Doctors exam table paper as backing?
I use copy paper for hats and seat organizers that we do.
Re: Doctors exam table paper as backing?
We have done it accidentally and it tore away just fine.
