Embroidery Biz

My wife wants to get into the embroidery business and we have found a used Tajima TFMX C1501 that is a couple of years old for less than $8K. According to the owner, it was only used for about 9 months and has been in a climate controlled storage for the past year and a half. The owner is going to get it out of storage, oil it and have it setup for us to view soon. The major issue is the owner is not selling any software with the machine.

My wife is concerned about buying used equipment, but this seems like a pretty good deal to me. We have spoken with Hirsch sales reps and of course they recommend we purchase new equipment and software. They quoted us $7000 for software for this machine (I think it was the Illustrator Extreme). Anyway, do any of the pros on this forum have insight for us as to other software options for this machine? My wife does not really want to be limited in her creative gifts.

How about spending the time selling the creative gifts and partnering with a local embroiderer and/or digitizer at first until sales show that buying your own machine would make sense. Sorry, many people buy machines only to find out it isnt a walk in the park, hence climate controlled storage for over a year and a half (no, that case could be an exception for whatever reason, but it is pretty common in this industry... we feed off people getting in, new blood, all the time) Be the creative mind, sell the product, digitize or run the machine, but please dont try to do all 4 at the start! yikes.
