I currently purchase supplies from Madeira, but am getting killed with shipping costs. Anyone have suggestions for an alternative to Madeira?
Re: Embroidery Supplies
Have you looked on eBay?
I have bought thread on there before pretty cheap. I was lucky one time to get a great deal on metallic thread one time. You can find hoops and other supplies too. If you find a good deal sometimes they offer free shipping too so a win win situation.
Re: Embroidery Supplies
For thread I usually use MetroThread - decent prices, quick turnaround, and the thread seems to work well with my Brother 4000D machine.
For stabilizer I've been using stuff from World Weidner - they have decent pricing for iron-on stabilizer and water-soluble stabilizer.
For stock designs it's hard to beat Embroidery Library - free designs monthly, sales all the time, and fast service.
For blank patches I use EnMart - they provide stock sizes, shapes, and colors, or custom - again reasonably priced and quick turnaround.

Re: Embroidery Supplies
It surprises me that shipping costs would be the deterrent as they have 13 locations and 9 authorized dealers for a total of 22 locations to ship from. Maybe you are buying just a little here and a little there instead of waiting for a sizable order? Just a shame to maybe use an inferior product over some shipping and deal with thread issues or others.

Hi, I use Brother Mall - PAS store to buy all my Madiera in the large cones, thread. I find it very reasonable! If you are not familiar with it, http://www.brothermall2.com/
I hope this helps.

Re: Embroidery Supplies
I sell thread and bobbins if you're interested, dkmonogramming.com . Shipping all depends on location and if the address is commercial or residential. I've found that 12 spools of thread fit into a USPS regional rate A box which usually less expensive than UPS. I don't charge handling, small order or any other junk fees. I think madiera charges a handling fee which ups the price to unreasonable.
You might ask your suppliers to ship on your UPS or FEDEX account if the supplier will do that for you. GSG was slamming me on shipping and garbage fees and the bill to shipper stopped all that.
