For those with experienced in house digitizers, or for those that are themselves an experienced digitizer... how many designs per day would you consider acceptable? Or dollar amount produced if you track that method? Standard left chest and hat designs, corporate logos, school logos nothing out of the ordinary. Not talking about specialty digitizing as in 3D, applique, or large jacket logos, just your average mix.

Re: How many designs per day to expect from in house digitizer?
I was a digitizer at Geoffrey Macphersons in UK.
When jobs came in, we (the digitizers) took turns picking jobs.
Obviously first preference was large stitchcount designs.
We were expected to do approx. 200,000 stitches per week, which is 5 full days, 8 hrs per day. This consisted of simple and complicated jobs. I personally used to work 9-10 hrs daily and my stitchcount per week ran upto 300,000 stitches which works out at 6000 sts per hour.
But note that the jobs that we picked were ready drafted by the draftsmen so we just had to digitize them using the tablet.
This is a very interesting topic to discuss especially for the embroidery companies to understand the viability of outsourcing as opposed to inhouse digitizing. I will drop another post later on this so we can have both views.

Re: How many designs per day to expect from in house digitizer?
Hi Rish,
Thats interesting post by you on stitch counts..... one of our digitizer done 235587 stitches in a day recently including 2 Jacket Back designs still keeping top quality work without any edits sent by the client.
May be jacket back designs was having more fill in the designs!
Re: How many designs per day to expect from in house digitizer?
We are talking about an average day....not a one time order of a jacket back. I could easily do a 500,000 stitch design in 2 hours but that doesn't give a realistic view of the costing to keep an inhouse digitizer.
We are discussing average output, average wages, average turnaround time maintaining good quality digitizing.
And ofcourse jacket back designs are having more stitches.

Great thread!!
Re: How many designs per day to expect from in house digitizer?
ok here are my thoughts for a UK embroidery company
Assuming the annual salary is £15000 for a full time digitizer. This may vary depending on experience.
So....
Annual Salary: £15000.00
Monthly Salary: £1250.00
Weekly Salary: £290.00
Further to my previous post:
Weekly output (a little on the higher side): 250,000 stitches
Working Days: 5
Working Hours per day: 7 hours
Total hours per week: 35
Therefore....
Average output per hour: 250,000 / 35 = 7142 stitches
Hourly pay: £290.00 / 35 = £8.29
Hence....
Cost of digitizer: £8.29 / 7.142 = £1.16 per 1000 stitches
The costing is justified as long as you have approx.250,000 stitches worth of work for your digitizer. If not then the digitizer is actually costing you more.
I have attached the above working on an excel file for you to put in your own figures to see for yourself if you are better off having an inhouse digitizer or outsourcing your digitizing.
Hope this helps....:)

great posts so far, thank you. Personally I think 200k stitches per week sounds very low for a full time digitizer, but would like to hear from more people please.

Re: How many designs per day to expect from in house digitizer?
When I used to work at an embroidery shop as their digitizer. I could digitize 7 to 8 left chest designs in an 8 hour day. Big jacket back designs 2 to 3 in a day. When I left in 2005, they were paying me $8.50/hour.

Re: How many designs per day to expect from in house digitizer?
I dont care for the piece work plan as it makes it too hard to budget since they could be working on a $15.00 design or a $45.00 design, they still get their 10.00 each, but the house's income varies. we have our digitizers on salaries with a daily quota... so day in day out the house bills the same from each digitizer, so we can budget effectively. It is up to them if they do ten $10 designs or one $100 design, I dont care as long as the total number at the end of the day is the same.
