Needle not stitching, Barudan BEVY

We recently replaced the presser foot for the first needle on one of the heads. Today, for the first time since replacing the foot, we used that needle. For the first run it had trouble catching the bobbin thread, but sewed out just fine. Second time trying the needle wouldn't even completely touch the fabric. It bounces about half way down a couple times before registering the problem as broken thread.
Upon taking the front cover off and looking to make sure our pressure foot was installed correctly, we realized that the hook in back, that selects the needle and pulls the foot down, has trouble latching into and pulling the needle completely down. The hook in back is apparently working correctly as none of the other needles are having problems.
Any suggestions that we might try?

So I went ahead and called Barudan after checking what you suggested. Discovered that the driver was not completely slipping into the needle bar. I had to readjust the stopper slightly lower, and that seemed to do the trick.

It sounds like you may not have the presser foot depth set correctly, OR, perhaps it is a take-up lever issue. I'm going with take-up. I'm away from the shop so I can't send you a pic, but make sure that all the "levers" on the front of the machine are even, if the trouble needle is either higher or lower, then it may need an adjustment.

I don't think its a reciprocator, as if it was, you should be having problems on all needles, not just the one.
