I am new to this craft, and have found myself in a position where I can potentially save some money by not outsourcing my embroidery needs. I am considering purchasing a simple setup. I have some questions
1) What is the difference between a Surger, and an Ebroiderer machine?
2) Do the programmable embroiderers sew it automatically or do I have to be present to turn the item?
3) Which is the better buy (more bang for the buck) when it comes to embroidery machines?
4) Is it possible to utilize a 4x4 hoop to get a 6 inch pattern stitched?

1) In a single step, a serger can trim a seam and enclose it in thread. All you got to do is take a look at your shirts inside out too see what a serger does. Embroidery machines are used to stitch designs on clothing like sports mascots and company logos.
2) For commercial embroidery machines (multiple needles), once the embroidery file is loaded and the machine is set-up, you basically load and unload clothing. You can do other things while the design is being embroidered. With home machines (single needles), the machine will stop per thread color.
3) This depends on your needs like the number of items you'll be embroidering a day, whether you need a home machine or a commercial machine.
4) Yes it is by splitting the design. This method is not effecient or a productive method for business though.

Hi I will be getting an embroidery machine for x-mas from my boyfriend. My limit is around $500. I plan to embroider about 6 things a week (maybe more later), not much. I was thinking of Singer CE-100. I want to be able to download designs, put names &/or stock logos on nurses uniforms (scrub tops) on the left chest. I just started sewing a few months ago & now I want to embroidey machine. Maybe in a year or so if all goes well I will upgrade but for now I want the best machine I can get for <$500. Please give me ANY suggestions you have or anyone out there. I REALLY NEED THE HELP!!!
