Problems with my NEW computer!

I got my cool computer just the other day and it's only today that I got it all setup. Already I'm having problems! I'm not a techie but here are the specifications of the tower that I got.

Operating System - Windows XP Media Center 2005
Processor - 2.8 GHz Pentium D 820 with Dual Core Technology
Video Card - 256MB nVidia GeForce 6800
RAM - 1GB 4 Dual Channel DDR2 at 533MHz

Once I got it setup, I installed my other software like Adobe Photoshop etc. Everything looks good so far, but for some reason I can't go online! No internet connection or e-mail access! Everytime I try to open my browser (Internet Explorer) it freezes up!

I had to hook up my old PC to go online and post this 'cause the place i bought the computer from can't solve the problem over the phone and wants me to drive there to TRY to solve the problem. They're 2 hours away and they said I would have to wait a couple of days to get back the computer after I deliver it! Very frustrating I tell ya! Any techie out there PLEASE HELP! Thank you.

I don't think there is anything wrong with your old or new computer. It seems like you have not set your Internet connection properly on your new computer.

What's the OS of your old computer and how do you access the Internet (analog, ISDL, DSL, or cable)? Also, do you have a firewall installed on your new computer?

Thanks for trying to help. I have broadband connection using a cable modem. The operating system for my older one is Windows XP Home Edition. I have ZoneAlarm Pro as my firewall on my new one.

Try this on your old computer--the one you're using now--while you're still online.

1) Start > Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt

2) Type "ipconfig /release" then press Enter (you will lose your Internet connection)

Disconnect the Ethernet cable from your old computer and connect it to your new computer. On your new computer do the following.

1) Start > Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt

2) Type "ipconfig /renew" then press Enter

3) When you try going online with your browser and other programs that require Internet connection like Outlook Express, make sure your firewall allows them to do so.

This should work, well, at least that's what I think. If it doesn't, connect the Ethernet cable again on your old computer and do the following gain back your online access.

1) Start > Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt

2) Type "ipconfig /renew" then press Enter

Good luck!

WOOHOO!!! It worked!!! :p :D

Whatever the heck ipconfig does I love it! Thanks soooo much Marc. Now i get to take my new computer for a spin on the net! :)

I was going to try to help with some of my ideas earlier, but was afraid your new PC might explode :p Not so techie myself haha..

You're welcome. I'm glad that fixed your problem and have fun with your new computer.
