Hello all,
When I do small designs on my machine, the tread balls up on the back of the design. The tread tension is good. And it seems to do it more on ball caps than on flats. But it still does it. How do I get this to stop? I have some caps that need done this week but can't seem to get them straight.
I'm using a Brother 416 #40 thread and med tear away backing.

it could also be the digitizing. satin stitches that are too narrow or densities that are too tight can do it too. i try not to do satin stitches under 1.2 mm wide...

if you are getting "balling" the precursor to birds nests. your thread tension is NOT good. either the thread is too loose or the bobbin is too tight. Hold the bobbin thread in it's case (meaning hold the bobbin thread as it is properly in the case, about 4 inches) and see if it (the case) falls gently, or quickly, or not at all. use your thumbnail to adjust the screw so that the bobbin only moves when you move your hand up and down. For top thread tension I personally use my teeth, but that is probably not something that can be conveyed in a sentence. Take care of the bobbin in this case and I bet a donut problem solved.
