I might sound like a "Ole' Foggey", but these "Games" have taken over the minds and wills of the younger generation.
What ever happened to "Hands On"? My nephew, "who is 30 years old", is so into these games that he won't even help me change the brakes on his car to get a sticker. I will not do the job by myself...it's not my car! He got mad and went straight back to his game...happily.
He has lost his job over those games. Not just him, but other younger people as well, and for what!....a game!
Subliminal messages is what I think. I've seen what kind of power they have, with test subjects and it ain't nothing to be fooled with.
All the youngest generation wants to do is play those games and damn the consequences. No matter what!
So....do whatever you want. I just think after Atari...the games took control of you...not you over the games.

It's funny how people are always looking for some external reason to blame for others actions. You know Elvis was to blame for corrupting the youth at the time, rock music is the devil, movies are to blame for violence. Have you ever thought that maybe your nephew is either just lazy or hiding from some other problem by engulfing himself into games? People do it all the time with drugs, food, alcohol, cleaning obsessively, exercising , the list goes on. I find it shallow thinking that it is the 'video games' that are the cause of his reclusiveness. Oh my xbox is calling.

"Oh my xbox is calling".....LOL...That's pretty funny. I just may have shallow thoughts about video games. Perhaps it's my age....and yes, my nephew is a lazy lump of flesh.
No offense was meant by my comments and Elvis did corrupt us. Of course I was more into the heavy psychedelic devil rock that sounded so much better with good drugs and alcohol.
I guess we all get a bit obsessive over what we look at as recreation, mine's cleaning and exercise, not movies, they make me too violent....Oh my Atari is calling.

I enjoy gaming when I can afford the time, but as life creeps up on you there seems to be less and less of that precious free time, ahhh. For those younger who are involved too heavily I would tend to blame their parents instead of them. With the demise of family dinners together parents seem to accept any form of distraction that keeps the kids quiet (TV, Gaming, Out with friends, etc) IMO

You have got a very good point. When I see kids with 3 and 4 game systems, I think its nuts! One should be enough...even though some games are exclusive to certain systems..when do you really have the time to play? Parents have to monitor and get things under control.

Got Rock Band for the xbox360. Very cool, but more so if you have a couple of people to play with you!

As a single mom of 4, I hear ya!! We have ONE gaming system - Game Cube
(my chioce, because I love the mario games! :P)
Time on the GameCube is no different than time on the computer, it is a privilage and it is earned. Computer can be used for homework, but nothing else if they have not earned the time. We have no fighting games, and I discourage them being played elsewhere. They don't even ask to play that often, especially now that we have DSL and they can get on the computer and talk to their friends and such.

I agree with Robert, that it is not the kids as much as I believe it is the parents...
Even when I see kids jsut running around looking like they are up to no good, I wonder what there parents are doing.

Recently (this is a little off the subject of games) there was a high school girl who became pregnant - she was a starter on the varsity VB team. She continued playing LATE into her pregnancy an deven appered in the starting line-up at State! Many area communities were upset with the school allowing this to happen - I agreed, BUT as a parent, my child would have been BENCHED by me!! She would continue going to school and receiving her education, but sports is an extra cirr and she would not be participating!! It was insane!

OK, so I guess I will be quiet now. Games, computers, whatever the case... it can only be a poor influnence if the person allows it to be, if a kids is getting more attention at the computer or behind his game conmtrols, then that is were he is going to be. We need to be parents first and hopefully when they are grown they will actually want to be our friends too! IMO
