Machine maintenance question

Hello everyone,
I'm in the beginning stages of planning my new business venture and I had a question concerning the importance of having a qualified repairman in the local area. I'm in Las Cruces, NM which is in extreme southern NM, 45 minutes from El Paso and 3 hours from ABQ. From the research I've done, there seems to be a Brother dealer in El Paso and a Bernina store in my town. Of the embroidery places I've seen in town, they all have Tajima machines which begs the question, does Tajima service these machines or do they subcontract the work?

I hate to limit myself to a certain brand simply based on my location but if these shops all have Tajimas, they either have someone in-house doing the maintenance or Tajima sends someone out. I'm just curious because I have zero experience running these machines and I certainly would not be able to fix it if it broke. I would also need a trainer as well. Thanks for your time, folks.

You could ask you competitors who services their machines. If they are well established and you are just getting started they shouldn't mind this question. You could also call Tajima West and ask them what the typeical charge is for a tech to service a one head machine. They should be able to tell you what the travel millage/ cost will be. Although this won't work for an unexpected problem, for general maintenance many people wait until a tech is doing a service sweep in their area so traveling costs can be split. In addition to specific machne techs, many independant techs are certified in more than one brand. Two popular techs are Jim Auclair (Fix Your Stitch) and Wayne Benton (Sew Tech).

I use the Melco AMAYA machines here at my shop. The OS for the machines has the maintenance schedule built in. As the machines reach a certain stitch count it will tell you what maintenance to do. You will also get the necessary oils and lubes to do the service yourself. When one of the timers goes off and tells you to do something, it also provides step by step instructions with pictures so that you do what the machine is asking for.

I do all my own maintenance myself. If you are in need of a major repair, it doesn't matter what company you use, it's gonna cost you whether the tech is across the state or across town.

Might be something worth looking into.
