Forums:
The art has a design with a solid white rectangle with a black border on it... but since it is an image of their actual signage I do not know if you want the solid rectangle, outline only, or no rectangle. Most clients do not do solid fills behind their designs as they add considerably to the stitchcounts and are not usually needed.
Client response to my inquiry: "hi, no triangle is needed, please proceed"

Re: Interesting instructions for your digitizer
Yesterday: client wants to know why a design done in 2005 does not work now. ?not sure what that means it isn't a can of beans that is 14 years old and gone bad or exploaded. Me: may we see an image of what you are getting? Maybe the fabric is different , or machine, or operator..... but in any case if you can send an image I am sure we can figure out a way to make it work for you. no charge.
Client: why can't you just make it work I mean we did pay for it.
Oh yes you did 14 years ago and oh let me see when was your last order....oh lookie it was in 2010. UH I offer to adjust for Free and you have not ordered from us in 9 years and you are going to give attitude?

UH
Your last order was in 2018. you did have 2 quotes in 2019 but not for this design. WHY THE CAPS???? You do ONE design a year and you enter YOUR OWN QUOTES and are upset with US?
I know some type in all caps normally but they actually changed to ALL CAPS in their message. UPSET because we never got a quote request that you never entered?

sounds fun actually. would be interesting to discuss opinions on different parts as well.
Honestly itd be interesting to compare opinions on things like digitizing choices as well as production etc.
tbh Im actually only 29. (and apparently everyone tells me i look 23) But somehow in 6 years I became an expert? lol

client just sent in a design to fix a misspelling... apparently their art had the town name wrong. We followed the art so we are not at fault. whew. BUT the design was digitized in 2006! they have sewn a design with the town name WRONG how many times in TEN YEARS??? I would think at the very least they had an order in 2006... so there is One time... but it took 10 years to reorder or have they lots of items done incorrectly? lol
sorry, I just find this interestingly humorous.

This one took me by surprise: client calls to see if we have implemented the "five minute rule" What is that? OH that is where a customer can only be in your shop for 5 minutes.
is this a real thing?
Here we all work from our homes so there is NO place to visit for 1 minute or 12 hours. lol

I agree AlisonB in that most salespeople for embroidery are just trying to make a commission but never try to seriously learn the medium which to me seems pretty shortsighted but hey, to each their own.
OH, and let us not even begin with embroidery operators yet they are REALLY the ones who can save many designs if they are up to it. They are much underappreciated in my opinion. (slow machine here, speed up there, use thicker or thinner thread, etc)

Re: Interesting instructions for your digitizer
I was asked to digitize a logo for one of the local (South African) church groups. Curving over the picture part of the design were the words "Cease the heart of Jesus with me". I'm like "What????".
Then I realized that with 11 official indigenous languages plus English and Afrikaans, someone who was not an English speaker had misinterpreted the word "Sieze". Thank goodness they agreed to the change when I pointed it out. :)
Re: Interesting instructions for your digitizer
29 ha, that means I have been digitizing longer than you are old! 30 years this past November. Do not ask me to help with a car's engine but digitizing?, well that is a different story. Who would think that anyone could make a great living off of a micro industry like digitizing!!
Today (keeping on topic of thread) a client wants to know why I quoted them such a high price for digitizing when they already did the "hard part" of vectorizing the art. ah yes today we just press a button and quality digitizing is made!

Re: Interesting instructions for your digitizer
Oh Robert, I do enjoy reading your posts. :) It is so good to know that other embroiderers have to deal with the clueless public, and I so agree that sales people have NO IDEA what is going to work to make good embroidery.
I digitized a design for a company, where the client was very specific about the size. The bottom line of lettering, in a bordered design, was something like 2mm (!!!) in height, so I did it in a run stitch. It turned out quite legible, and I thought I had done well. But the client didn't like it like that, and asked for it to be removed. No problem -easily done, but then the entire design, within the border, looked off-balance. And they were OK with that. It hurt my sense of lay-out, but there you are.
Looking forward to the next impossible task you are asked to do. Lol.
Re: Interesting instructions for your digitizer
ltpemb: what you wrote would be a PERFECT article if only there were places to publish it that mattered anymore!
Identity Marketing,
EMB
IMPRESSIONS
STITCHES
etc. oh then a WEARABLES combination pamphlet. ha.
There were SO many opportunities to learn about so much in the industry but like paper books the internet has pretty much gotten it's pound of flesh without (unfortunately) assisting the embroidery industry.

Maybe they mean it SHOULD have an A instead??
It is a stylized font maybe they thought the R looked like an A? but right above it is the word INDIANS in the same font... so there is an obvious difference between the R and the A.

Re: Interesting instructions for your digitizer
That... seriously makes no sense... I would need more information. If its trimming after each stitch than that sounds like the machine is messed up or doing something strange... which could happen with a corrupted or messed up file. I have had weird glitches with the software that I had to go back into the stitch list and somehow the program added functions that I don't even have (somehow added sequin down and i don't even have the sequin tools in wilcom)

actually there are 8 words in 4 lines. I know, I know, we understand what they intend. but attention to detail for embroidery/digitizing. That being said this will look pretty odd. I think they are putting 4 lines and then separating them at their end for sleeve location.
They sure look odd though.. one line has 1 word so it is STRETCHED out to meet the 3 inches while another line has 3 words which are SMASHED together to fit within 3 inches. None of this will be uniform in appearance for their client and I hope the client is OK with this.

Client wants 4 unique quotes for the same design.. the ONLY thing changing is the thread colors they sew the design in! I am SERIOUS!
We do not care what colors you sew the thing in.... unless you are in the million plus stitch arena differences in thread thicknesses due to dye will never change your stitchcount enough to matter in my experience.
I realize this comes across as less than best but come on....seriously. how low is the threshold to enter our "profession" or did I just make an error?

Line 1.Studio C, as TOP line-Slightly larger at 2.25\" wide and centered ABOVE 2\" Square. Line 2. School of Dance- Slightly smaller at 2.75\" wide centered below 2\" square, Line 3. and Productions- centered below School of Dance at about the same size. Design is a simple "P" for a school... solid with a white outline and then a purple outline.
BUT is it. ? does the white sew or does the fabric show through for that part. Cannot tell because the background is also white. So I ask
Client states that she feels the white should be sewn. So I quote it that way.
Later the same day she sends the quote back asking.... "hey just want to make sure we are on the same page and the white is the fabric showing through?"

Re: Interesting instructions for your digitizer
A business we have digitized for since 2014 sold last week. Name changed. new owners wanted their first two designs to be deeply discounted as a "test".
did you buy a company that has quality issues in the community? hope not, that could take a long time to resolve. Hopefully you bought a company that had Great social collateral in the area with top notch quality? (meaning we hopefully helped with that?)
so one design is discounted by 45percent. the second design has over 18000 stitches and is quite difficult so I keep the price the same as normal. we go back and forth a few times.. I stand my ground
they come back and ask about a couple of simplification options. I quote them 2 options. their response is : great, let's do that!
do what?
Which option would you like.
They think I am rude.
maybe I should have just done BOTH options and charged both?
